Body tightening (Morpheus8) in Lincoln Park

Firmer, smoother skin below the neck

Morpheus8 Body uses a larger 40-pin tip that reaches 7 mm into the skin, with about a millimeter of heat beyond that, to tighten crepey skin and soften stretch marks on the abdomen, arms, knees, and thighs. At Skinovatio Lincoln Park, we use it to improve skin quality. It doesn’t remove fat and isn’t a body-contouring treatment.

What to expect

What the appointment is like

Body sessions run longer than face sessions, and most of the extra time is numbing. Plan on 45 to 60 minutes of topical anesthetic before the handpiece touches skin, then 30 to 60 minutes of treatment depending on how many areas you’re doing. Wear loose clothing that won’t rub on the treated area afterward.

  1. Consult

We’ll assess the skin with a pinch test and ask what you’d like to change. If the concern is fat rather than skin, this isn’t the right treatment. If it’s skin, you’ll leave with your areas, session count, and dates in a written plan, and a small non-refundable deposit comes off your treatment.

  2. Numbing

Topical anesthetic sits for 45 to 60 minutes. Deep settings sometimes get injected lidocaine as well.

  3. Treatment

The 40-pin tip stamps a grid across the area. Expect deep pressure and heat, stronger than on the face. Burst mode covers a stomach in fewer passes.

  4. Before you leave

We’ll apply balm, you’ll change into loose clothing over the area, and we’ll give you written aftercare and book your next date if you’re doing a series.

Your results

A predictable timeline

You’ll see a first change in a few weeks as swelling clears. The full result appears about three months after the last session, once collagen has remodeled. Stretch marks and scars usually need the full series before a photo shows the difference.

  1. Days 0 to 2

Red, swollen, with grid marks, and tender under clothes.

  2. Days 3 to 7

Scabs slough off, with some itching and dryness. The grid fades.

  3. Week 2

The surface has closed, and sun and pool restrictions lift.

  4. Weeks 4 to 6

Time for your next session if you’re doing a series.

  5. Month 3

We’ll look at the result together after the final session. Stretch marks softer, skin firmer.

  6. Year 1

One maintenance session helps hold it for most people.

What it costs

Clear pricing, planned by the visit

A few things shape your cost: the size and count of areas (a lower abdomen isn’t the same as two knees), one session versus a series of three, Burst passes versus standard, the numbing method, and whether you bundle a maintenance session. Your consult sets the plan, and the deposit comes off the total. Our Morpheus8 cost post also has a body section: how much Morpheus8 costs in Chicago.

Forma on the body is radiofrequency without needles. That means no downtime, a milder effect, and more sessions. It’s a good fit for mild firming when you’d rather avoid downtime, or for maintaining a Morpheus8 Body result between series.

Kybella is the only fat-reduction treatment we offer, and it’s approved for fat under the chin only. If the fullness under your chin is fat, Kybella is the place to start. If it’s loose neck skin, consider Morpheus8 for the face and neck.

Is it right for me?

Who it’s for, and who it isn’t

You’re likely a good candidate if your skin has mild to moderate laxity and your weight is stable. Common examples include a lax lower abdomen and silver stretch marks after pregnancy, and crepey skin on the knees and inner arms from age or weight change.

A good fit for

  • Crepey or mildly loose skin on the abdomen, arms, knees, or thighs
  • Old, silver stretch marks (improvement, not erasure)
  • Skin changed after pregnancy, weight loss, or after 50
  • All skin tones, treated conservatively on darker skin

Not recommended

  • Fat volume or a “tummy-tuck result” (it doesn’t remove fat)
  • A hanging apron of skin or separated muscles (surgery fits better)
  • Red or purple stretch marks (microneedling with PRP first)
  • An infection, a keloid history, or during pregnancy

The FDA’s 2025 safety communication cites reports of burns, scarring, and fat loss, naming the abdomen among the most-treated sites. We keep settings conservative over thin-fat zones and treat the abdomen in more passes at moderate depth.

In detail

What it treats

Here are the areas we treat most often.

Abdomen: loose lower-belly skin after pregnancy or weight change, and stretch marks that have faded to silver. This is our most common Morpheus8 Body request, and the area where clear expectations matter most. Mild to moderate laxity responds. A skin apron or separated abdominal muscle doesn’t, and those are better addressed surgically.

Arms: crepey skin on the inner upper arm. This is a good candidate area, because the skin is thin and the change is easy to see.

Knees and thighs: crepey skin above the kneecap and on the inner thigh. Cellulite is dimpling from fibrous bands under the skin, and Morpheus8 Body softens the texture rather than removing the dimples. A small case series tested the 40-pin applicator on cellulite, per Ugonabo and colleagues, and the evidence for cellulite is limited to small studies like that one.

Buttocks and back: texture, stretch marks, and body acne scarring.

Loose skin on the body most often follows weight change, pregnancy, or aging.

How it works

The device is the Morpheus8 Body applicator on the same InMode platform as the face version. Forty insulated needles stamp to a programmed depth of up to 7 mm and release radiofrequency from their tips, heating the deep dermis and the top of the fat layer in a fractional pattern. InMode describes it as “the first and only FDA cleared technology to penetrate subdermal tissue with a thermal profile of 8mm,” per its 2020 launch release. A “Burst” mode fires at three depths in one cycle so a large area takes fewer passes.

The heat contracts tissue on the day and starts collagen remodeling that runs for months, which is why body results build gradually, per Hendricks and Farhang.

Two things to keep in mind. First, the FDA clearance says nothing about fat, cellulite, or contouring. The July 2020 letter lists the 40-pin tip at 7 mm for “electrocoagulation and hemostasis,” and the 2024 clearance adds “coagulation/contraction of soft tissue.” Morpheus8 Body is FDA-cleared, not FDA-approved. Second, the body evidence is still thin. A plastic-surgery review of noninvasive abdominal devices warns about “conflicting anecdotal reports” and “marketing hyperbole,” per Hurwitz and Wright. That’s why we describe body results as skin-quality changes, which is what the data supports.

Afterwards

Downtime and aftercare

Body downtime is usually covered by clothing, though it can be more uncomfortable than face downtime, especially where waistbands or straps rub.

Days 0 to 2: expect redness, swelling, a visible grid of needle marks, and tenderness to the touch. Pinpoint scabs form. Bruising is more likely at deeper settings than on the face.

Days 3 to 7: the scabs slough off, and the area may itch and feel dry as the grid fades. Tenderness under a waistband or bra strap is usually the last thing to go.

Week 2: the surface has closed, and your skin looks like itself again.

Aftercare basics: SPF on any treated area that will see daylight, loose clothing, no pools or hot tubs until the surface has closed, no scrubs or actives for about a week, and no sweaty workouts for the first stretch. Redness, dryness, itching, and crusting are on the FDA’s list of common microneedling effects, per its consumer page.

Treated skin needs to stay covered and out of the sun for two weeks after each session, which matters most for areas like the knees and arms that are often exposed in warm weather.

Why here

Why Lincoln Park

You’ll find us on Lincoln Avenue just north of Wrightwood, on the ground floor, a block up from the Apollo. Take the Brown Line to Diversey and walk south, or any of the three lines to Fullerton and walk north. The 11 Lincoln bus runs right past our door. There are meters on Lincoln, free side-street parking west of Clark if you check the cleaning signs, and the Lincoln Common garage. Body treatment areas are usually covered by clothing on the way home.

Because treated skin needs to stay covered and out of the sun for two weeks after each session, we schedule body series from October through April, when sun exposure is lower. A series started in October finishes well before summer. For a summer wedding, aim to finish arms and back 8 to 12 weeks before the date. At Skinovatio Lincoln Park, every session is done by our medical esthetician.

Questions

Common questions, answered

The abdomen, inner and upper arms, knees and thighs, buttocks, back, and the neck-to-chest area. It’s used for lax or crepey skin, stretch marks, and body scars. Any area with loose skin over a stable weight is a candidate. If your concern is fat volume, it isn’t the right fit.

It can tighten mildly to moderately loose skin after weight loss, and the lower abdomen and inner arms are the usual targets. It can’t tighten a hanging fold of skin or a separated abdominal wall, which are better handled surgically. It’s best to have a stable weight before starting, since further loss changes the skin again.

Yes. Crepe above the knee and on the inner upper arm are two of the better body areas, because the skin is thin and the change is easy to see. Plan on a series of three sessions, four to six weeks apart, and we’ll look at the result together three months after the last one.

No. Body contouring devices target fat, while Morpheus8 Body targets skin and doesn’t remove fat. Its FDA clearance covers coagulation and contraction of soft tissue and says nothing about fat or cellulite. We don’t offer body-contouring devices at Lincoln Park. If overall weight is your concern, our nurse practitioners offer medically supervised weight loss.

Plan on about two hours for a single large area. Topical numbing takes 45 to 60 minutes, then treatment runs 30 to 60 minutes depending on the size and number of areas. Multiple areas add time. There’s no sedation, so you can drive or take transit home.

Days 0 to 2 are red and swollen with a visible grid of needle marks and some tenderness. Days 3 to 7 bring pinpoint scabs and itching as the grid fades. Bruising is possible at deeper settings. By week two the surface has closed. Clothing covers all of it, though a waistband over a freshly treated abdomen can be uncomfortable for a few days.

Four to six weeks. A series is usually three sessions, so the course takes two to three months, plus three more for the final collagen change to show. Plan on five to six months from your first session to your finished result.

Yes, for about two weeks after each session, and we recommend SPF on the area for the rest of the series. Fresh needle channels and sun together raise the risk of dark marks. That’s why we schedule body series from October through April and treat May through September as maintenance season.

Usually, yes. The body tip goes deeper and runs higher energy, so each stamp feels like deep pressure and heat. Numbing cream sits for 45 to 60 minutes, and deep settings sometimes get injected lidocaine as well. Bony areas like the knees and the lower abdomen near the hip tend to be the most tender spots.

Not right away. It’s best to skip sweaty exercise for the first stretch after each session, keep the treated area covered and out of the sun for two weeks, and avoid tight compression gear rubbing on fresh scabs. An easy run in long tights after the first few days is fine, but treated skin should stay out of the sun for the full two weeks.

It isn’t reversible, and results build slowly over months. That’s why we plan it as a series, so you can stop after one session if you choose.
